Melco Design Shop vs Design Shop Lite

Hi everyone,

I have been doing screen printing for the last few years and am about to get into embroidery.

I am looking at 2 machines (same brand and type). One of the machines comes with Melco Design shop. The other machine comes with Melco design shop lite. The price for each machine is very similar. The big difference is that the machine that comes with Design shop lite is close to where I live. The machine with the design shop is located quite a ways from me. Does anyone have experience using design shop lite? Would it be adequate for someone that is new to embroidery? I am planning on self teaching and learning digitizing etc on my own. Most likely I'll outsource some of it as I am learning... Any advice for me?

I am looking at an emc 4 head 6 needle used machine. Any thoughts on this machine?

Thanks in advance for your help:)

Proper hat hooping technique?

Ok I have came to the conclustion that my needle breaks have a large part to do with to much play in the hat. I feel like some hats that I hoop are not close enough to the metal plate and are bouncing up and down. Please let me know if you know any good sites I can visit that show the proper way to hoop.

Thanks Troy

Greetings,
I found this wonderful site researching machines and software. I have been considering a Happy Voyager to incorporate into my newly formed longarm quilting business.

why isn’t the thread catching?

Hi again-
Some materials just do not seem to lend themselves to certain colors. I can stitch a practice piece (simple 100% cotton) and it embroiders beautiful. Then try the same design on another fabric (usually poly/nylon, hats, etc. are the worst), and half or more of the stitches are not catching the hook. I've tried to think this through as logically as I could, but I can't get anywhere (after literally HOURS of playing with it). Is there something I'm missing? I can remove the material, take off the needle plate, rotate the wheel by hand, and it catches 99% of the time. Put the material back on, turn it by hand, and it skips half/most of the time. I can't even think how this can be happening.

Also, a side question: I've noticed before I have better "catching" success when doing nylon/poly coats and the like when I decrease the check spring tension (to almost no load). I've searched and searched but I can't find anywhere that this is supposed to make any difference. What effect (or rather, how much) does this have on embroidering? The check spring that is.;)

Thanks for any help, the first problem is [almost] driving me nuts!!

needle keeps breaking

can anyone help had to change the lower bobin on the machine and since then every time I start the needle breaks I have checked the manual but there is no reason I can see for it doing this ........ it was running fine before this ....... does any one have any ideas of what the problem could be .........

Why does my needle keep breaking on hats?

I am doing a 6,000 stitch design and my needle is breaking on every other hat...is there something wrong that I am not seeing? Thanks Troy
