t-shirt wholesale price differences

Hi,
I screenprint shirts and sell them on Etsy, very small time, more as a hobby, really, and I am really trying to cut down my costs. I am researching websites and many of them make you apply to buy shirts as a wholesaler. They make you input tax resale and ASI numbers that I don't have. So my question is, are these sites much cheaper than the discount sites that I purchase from? I am wondering whether to apply for these...
Thanks!!

Can you really make $$$ with DTG

Looking to get into DTG. I like the Brother G541 however I have some concerns. 1) only can really print on about 6 colors unless you're printing black on semi-darker shirts. Screenprinters next to us print about 90% of all t-shirts on darker colors. 2) are you going to mainly get orders of 1-6 meaning very small orders? 3) Everyone says ink is about $1/shirt but a distributer ran a sample for me was 300cc which is about $3! 4) no white ink, lots of t's seem to have white in them. My point is you seem so limited compared to screen printing is this an add on business for screenprinters or can you make a business out of this?

is NorCal a brand or a company?

Hi Guys,

Quick question. Is NorCal a brand or a company? or just meaning North California?

Thanks

Best printing method for this design….

Hi,
I follow this forum quite often, but I'm stuck and could do with some help!
I have a few designs which feature grungy, paint splatter and glow effects.

Currently we use transfer paper (ironall & jetwear for darks).

I'd like to have some of these on dark garments (mainly black) but am aware that it'd require a hell of a lot of cutting out and still wouldn't look quite right.
So my question is what'd be the best option for us?; with the obvious point we want to keep outgoings to a minimum.

Thanks in advance!

10 Red Balloons: DARPA Challenge Finds 10 Bright Red Objects Across US in 9 Hours Using Social Networking

Dec 6 2009 11:55AM

DARPA, also known as the Department of Mad Scientists issued a challenge that occurred on Saturday, the 40th anniversary of the establishment of ARPANet, the proto-Internet. The plan: raise ten red, 8-foot weather balloons in well-trodden places and give a $40,000 prize to whatever entity submits the precise coordinates of all 10 balloons in the shortest time. MIT’s Red Balloon Challenge Team won the prize by incentivizing people to both look for the balloons and—this is very important—inviting other people in their social networks to also look for the balloons. Cash incentives for both finding the balloons and for inviting people who ultimately found the balloons no doubt helped the MIT team to complete the challenge in only 9 hours, which is sort of amazing considering the needle-in-a-haystack nature of the challenge.

DARPA’s Red Balloon Network Challenge was solved in a manner similar to the old "all points bulletin" that law-enforcement agencies use to search for suspects or “persons” of interest. However, search resources can be vastly greater—virtually unlimited—using social-networking technology in this manner. The technology holds great promise for good (think of the US Department of Justice’s Amber Alert system for finding abducted children) or ill (think of George Orwell’s Big Brother government from the novel 1984).
